It’s Monday! What are you reading? | June 4th

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly post in which we share what we’ve recently finished reading, what we’re currently reading, and what we plan on reading next. This meme/tag is hosted by Kathryn over at Bookdate.

What I read last week

And I Darken by Kiersten WhiteWhit_9780553522310_jkt_all_r1.indd

A fantasy novel set in 15th century Ottoman Empire, And I Darken features a vicious female main character. Lada was inspired by Vlad the Impaler, who was Mary Shelley’s inspiration for Dracula.

I absolutely loved this read, especially the bold and strong female characters, and I can’t wait to dive into the second book!

I’ve already written a full, spoiler-free review for it – you can read it here.

What I’m currently reading

The other day I forgot my current read at home, so I decided to start reading this one on my phone since I’d had the ebook for a while now.

Although I was thrown off by the southern talk and spelling the author used, I am actually enjoying this more than I thought I would. It’s a western story set in the USA in the 19th century and it’s about this girl whose father was murdered. She is on a quest to find whoever did this and punish them, to avenge her father.

That’s about all I know since I’m like 10% into the book, but I’ll tell you more about it when I finish it 😅

What I’ll be reading next

This Does Not Leave This House by Julie CoonsImage result for this does not leave this house cover

My hardest and most important exam is tomorrow and after that, I will have about 5 tons lifted off my shoulders, so I plan to start reading more, even though I will still have to study for upcoming finals.

My plan is to dive into This Does Not Leave this House, which was kindly sent to me by the author, Julie Coons. It’s such a short read that I’m sure I can fly through it in one sitting.

It’s an autobiography, which talks about abuse in many different contexts, such as in a romantic relationship, at school and even in your own home. I am beyond excited to read Julie’s book, even though I’m sure it’s not an easy read 😕

What I read last week

Good Me, Bad Me by Ali Land9781250087652

This is a psychological thriller about a girl whose mother is a serial killer. She tells the police about it and now has to face her mother in court.

We follow her as she takes on a new identity and tries to start a new life in a foster family.

It’s a very good book, I’ll be writing a review for it very soon. I’ve already written one in my Portuguese blog if anyone’s interested 😋

What I’m currently reading

strangemedicine-coverforwebsiteStrange Medicine by Mike Russell

A collection of strange stories – and when they say strange, they’re not kidding!

I’ve read 2 out of the 8 stories and, although they are indeed very strange and bizarre, I’m enjoying it.

This was kindly sent to me by the author himself, so thank you very much for that ☺️

The Aeneid by Virgil805f3-aeneidvirgil

I’m reading this for the second time, now for my Roman Culture class.

In case you aren’t familiar with it, the Aeneid tells us the story of Aeneas, who is given a mission by the gods to be the founder of Rome.

Essentially, it portrays Rome as the best and most important empire, and the Romans as the best “race” there is and ever was. It’s sort of used as a way to tell the story of the origins of Rome, which led to ‘now’ (1st century BC), the huge Roman empire, and it also talks about the future.

What I’ll be reading next

f7af4fb9-7e95-4b84-88ed-7b01538152e0I really want to get to The Cruel Prince by Holly Black soon, since everyone’s been raving about it.

I’m convinced that I’m going to love it, since it has faeries and, from the looks of it, a very handsome prince 😉

WWW Wednesday: November 29, 2017

This meme was created by A Daily Rhythm and is now hosted by Taking on a World of Words. It’s essentially a weekly post in which you answer three questions (the three Ws), and that helps you track your reading.

Let’s jump right in!

What are you currently reading?

91zwrlyveyl
I am still making my way through Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I’ve had it on my TBR for ages, and I still haven’t read it, so I really needed to pick it up. I plan on reading the whole series this Fall/Winter!

e1a11bc317c2459690bab95630fff168-the-dinner-kochI am also reading The Dinner by Herman Koch, which is quite addicting. I’m enjoying it a lot!

Hopefully I’ll be able to finish it in time to include it in the wrap up and tell you all about it 🤞🏼

What did you recently finish reading?

I’ve actually been reading a lot this month, I’m very proud of myself! The two most recent reads were 1922 by Stephen King (review here) and Antigone by Sophocles, a Greek tragedy 👍🏼

What do you think you’ll read next?

I want to dive into Heir of Fire, but I will be quite busy in the next few weeks, unfortunately, so I might have to settle for a smaller book *cries*

Maybe I’ll keep reading Bricked In by Max Wannow, since it’s pretty short (especially compared to Heir of Fire, or any of the next books in the ToG series 😅).

So that’s all for this week’s WWW Wednesday. I have finals coming up, so I probably won’t be reading much until December 19th, when Christmas break finally arrives – although I have more tests in January 😰

What are your three Ws? Tell me in the comments down below, I’d love to read through them!

I hope you enjoy this meme, I actually really like it! I’m excited to share my reads with you each week 🙂

WWW Wednesday: October 18, 2017

Today I discovered a new bookish meme that I’d never seen before: WWW Wednesday. This meme was created by A Daily Rhythm and is now hosted by Taking on a World of Words. It’s basically a weekly post in which you answer three questions (the three Ws), and that helps you track your reading.

The Three Ws are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Let the fun begin!!

What are you currently reading?

I am making my way through Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the illustrated edition. I’ve had it since it came out last year, and I still haven’t read it, so I had to change that!

hidden-bodies

I’m also currently (but slowly) reading Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes, the sequel to You, which I absolutely loved. So far, unfortunately, the sequel is not nearly as good as the first book, so my interest has been going down as time goes on. I will finish it, though, it’s not a horrible book – it’s just a bit disappointing.

What did you recently finish reading?

29430798I finished The Devil Crept In by Ania Ahlborn about 20 minutes ago, and I’m in the process of writing a review for it. It was a good book and I recommend it, but you’ll have to wait until I post my review (pssst… it’ll be up tomorrow) for more information and all of my thoughts!

What do you think you’ll read next?

1200x630bb

I really want to get to The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson, since I’ve heard a ton of people raving about it. It is, supposedly, one of the best thrillers out there, so I’m really curious to see what I think of it!

So that’s all for this week’s WWW Wednesday. I haven’t been the best at finishing books this month, but hopefully I’ll start reading more now that I’ve finished my second book of October.

What are your three Ws? Tell me in the comments down below, I’d love to read through them!

I hope you enjoy this meme, I actually really like it! I’m excited to share my reads with you each week 🙂
